CREATIVE EUROPE

The Creative Europe program plays an important role in promoting European art, culture and media. Through this program the EU intends to offer greater support to European artists and creators, thus contributing to the deepening of European culture and identities.

The Creative Europe program has as specific objectives, namely:

  • strengthen artistic and cultural cooperation, including the mobility of artists and professionals, at EU level;

  • to promote cooperation, competitiveness and the innovation potential of the European audiovisual industry;

  • support the creation, circulation and promotion of European works;

  • promote a diversified and pluralistic environment for the media;

  • promote media literacy.

In addition, the program includes:

  • support for the translation and promotion of literary works across the EU;

  • the development of audiovisual works, namely video games;

  • the production of innovative television content and European and international co-productions;

  • support for the sale and circulation, at international level, of non-national European works on all platforms.

The Creative Europe program also supports:

  • architectural and heritage protection projects;

  • European film festivals and the music sector;

  • the European Capitals of Culture: highlights the diversity and richness of European cultures;

  • the EU Prize for Literature: recognizes the work of the best emerging authors in Europe;

  • the European Heritage Label: awarded to sites that have contributed to the progress of EU history and unity.
     

CULTURE

The cultural strand covers the cultural and creative sectors and includes these elements in order to:

  • strengthening the transnational creation and circulation of works;

  • strengthening the mobility of professionals through networks, platforms and cooperation projects;

  • strengthen support for the specific sectors of music, literature and architecture;

  • better promote cross-border European cultural content inside and outside Europe.
     

MEDIA

The media strand covers the audiovisual sector and includes the following main elements:

  • continued support for the development, production, promotion and dissemination of European works inside and outside Europe;

  • strengthening the expansion to new audiences, namely through new business models and new technologies;

  • development and promotion of innovative content, video games and a new type of television series;

  • creation of a European network of video-on-demand operators;

  • create a European network of festivals;

  • European films online directory creation;

  • increased investment in the training of professionals in the audiovisual sector, to make them "fit for the digital age".
     

INTERSECTORAL

The cross-sectoral strand covers activities from all cultural and creative sectors, including the following elements:

  • support for the creation of transnational networks and the exchange of experience and expertise for cultural operators;

  • promotion of new forms of cultural creation, experimental approaches and the use of innovative technologies;

  • promotion of a free, diversified and pluralistic framework for the media and support for quality journalism and media literacy.
